Artistic Proposal 3

For my 3rd project, I had decided to dwell into evaluating: making sound judgment about a situation based on a thorough understanding of concepts involved.

I have no influence on the concept that I have planned in my mind, I just came to me like the 1st project. I had decided to paint a peafowl.

The peafowl is a bird known for their piercing call and their extravagant plumage. The latter is especially prominent in the Asiatic species, who have an eye-spotted "tail" or "train" of covert feathers which they display as part of a courtship ritual.

I plan on using something known as 'Shadow Art' and a combination of other methods to work in my piece.

I'll use these pictures to assist me as well in the making of my art:

Thinking Skill: Contextualizing (Final Project)

Final Artist Statement:

For the second project, I had decided to imagine what life would be like if dinosaurs were still around and express how it would be like down on paper. Especially for this beast, the Spinosaurus, whose main reason for going extinct was the loss of their habitat was from the riverbeds drying up.

The Spinosaurus was by far one of the biggest of all carnivorous dinosaurs; it's even larger than the famous tyrannosaurus rex. It was 20 feet tall and 18 meters long, weighing in about 9 tons while the Rex was about the same height, but only 16 meters long and weighs only at 6 tons. The Spinosaurus was not fully meant to hunt on land and was the king of the sea at the time, so when the water dried up and they were forced to hunt on land, they had gained a rival that was more accustomed to the environment and way of hunting. Never having a rival before, the Spinosaurus tended to both win and lose against fights over food. They would get said rival off the food, but the bites they got inflicted during the fight would severely disable them and ultimately lead to their death sometime later on (a slow painful death).

The main purpose of this piece is to bring awareness to this creature. We have been told for years and years that the T-rex was the largest dinosaur to exist. And even longer than that, the Spinosaurus had been found and is indeed larger. Perhaps it may be time to be teaching the younger generation these facts? Only the future will tell...

(I had changed my idea from working with acrylic to colored pencil... I wanted to try something new this round so this was the end result. From this project I had concluded that I am more comfortable working with paint and will focus on improving those painting skills from here forward.)

Artist Proposal 2

My plan for the second project is focusing on the Contextualizing Concept; the "understanding of something in (and out of) its proper time and place due to environmental and situational factors involved". I had no idea as to what I could do for this for the longest time, but eventually, it hit me. My mind thought of the idea of dinosaurs possibly still being alive. From there I went into some research.

The one dinosaur that had stood out to me the most was a theropod dinosaur called the Spinosaurus (Spine Lizard).

The Spinosaurus skull is long and narrow, similar to that of a modern crocodile. It has also been known to have eaten fish, and most scientists believe that it hunted both on land and in the water; as studies have shown that bones of both land and water-dwelling creatures have been found wedged in its teeth and in its stomach. The name of this fearsome beast comes from the distinctive sail that can be seen on its back. That sail was simply extended vertebra from the spine, attached together with skin to form said appearance.

The main reasoning for this creature going extinct was the loss of it's hunting grounds (rivers and lakes) due to global warming drying up the water.

What I want to accomplish in my art piece is simply to imagine what life would be like if this dinosaur were to come back or still be alive. Doing all with acrylic paint again.

I will use these pictures below (and the one above + video) to help guide me in my work:

Thinking Skill: Cause and Effect (Final Product)

Final Artist Statement:

For my project, I had planned on creating artwork that demonstrated and represented the extinction of wolves. Being how they are on one of the most endangered animals on the list, I wanted to bring awareness to this serious issue that's taking place.

Most scientists say that the main cause of their inevitable fate is in conflict with people over livestock loss, intensitive predator control programs, and loss of habitat. Others may speculate and say their future extinction is a result of a long belief that they were dangerous to humans, and in return we attacked them. On the other hand, the wolves aren't normally the first to attack. Their first instinct is to flee from a human after years of living next to us, they fear us and have no reason to attack. So by this, means that the decrease in their population is all due to human interference.

Another cause that I've had discovered for this disaster, and one I've mainly based my final product off of, was the fire control. As stated already above, this also includes the loss of habitat. By having the wolf be blended in with the grass, its meant to symbolize the connection between the two. And when showing it catching ablaze, it means that not only is the ecosystem that is dying but the animals within that environment as well. Forest fires are a simple cause that can be fixed through responsibility and actually checking to make sure that campfire is truly put out before leaving it.
