Thinking Skill: Contextualizing (Final Project)

Final Artist Statement:

For the second project, I had decided to imagine what life would be like if dinosaurs were still around and express how it would be like down on paper. Especially for this beast, the Spinosaurus, whose main reason for going extinct was the loss of their habitat was from the riverbeds drying up.

The Spinosaurus was by far one of the biggest of all carnivorous dinosaurs; it's even larger than the famous tyrannosaurus rex. It was 20 feet tall and 18 meters long, weighing in about 9 tons while the Rex was about the same height, but only 16 meters long and weighs only at 6 tons. The Spinosaurus was not fully meant to hunt on land and was the king of the sea at the time, so when the water dried up and they were forced to hunt on land, they had gained a rival that was more accustomed to the environment and way of hunting. Never having a rival before, the Spinosaurus tended to both win and lose against fights over food. They would get said rival off the food, but the bites they got inflicted during the fight would severely disable them and ultimately lead to their death sometime later on (a slow painful death).

The main purpose of this piece is to bring awareness to this creature. We have been told for years and years that the T-rex was the largest dinosaur to exist. And even longer than that, the Spinosaurus had been found and is indeed larger. Perhaps it may be time to be teaching the younger generation these facts? Only the future will tell...

(I had changed my idea from working with acrylic to colored pencil... I wanted to try something new this round so this was the end result. From this project I had concluded that I am more comfortable working with paint and will focus on improving those painting skills from here forward.)

Thinking Skill: Analyzing Perspectives (Final Project)

I sat here looking through other artist's work, and I couldn't come up with anything for a while now. The project that I'm doing...
